This page is dedicated to my Great Great Grandfather William Bramwell and his first wife Margaret Fairs.

William Bramwell was born about 1830 in Gateshead England. Margaret Fairs was born about 1831 also in Gateshead.

When they were married, both William and Mary were living on the High Street in Gateshead.

William was a chainmaker, the same as his father.

William and Margaret married November 19th 1849 at St Marys Church Gateshead Co Durham.

The following table contains Birth, Marriage and Death dates we currently have and if a name or date is underlined, will link to a certificate or a photo for that event.

Mary Ann Thackray

Because of Margaret's untimely death at the age of just 23 in 1853 due to the outbreak of Cholera in Newcastle and Gateshead, William and Margaret only had one child, a son named John, born in 1851.

The Genuki.org website has information on the Cholera outbreak in Gateshead, click here for details.

William remarried the year after Margaret's death, to Isabella Lister, my Great Great Grandmother.

William lived to the age of 70 before he died from chronic bronchitis and cardiac disease on Wednesday 9th January 1901.
